Smart Meter Benefits: All Your Tools and Apps
A number of benefits will be available to you through email, our website and our mobile app that only a smart meter can bring you. Below we list them all for you in one place.
You’ll need an online account to use these features. If you don’t have one, you can sign up now.
Some tools may need to collect data for a few days or months to provide their full benefits. Images are examples for illustrative purposes only.
Bill Forecast
On your Account Overview you will now see Bill Forecast – a feature exclusive to customers with smart meters. This tool will allow you to see what your next bill is projected to be based on your usage. Time is required after installation to allow this tool to collect data and accurately forecast your bills.
This feature is also available in the palm of your hand on our mobile app under Usage & Billing Insights.
Bill Comparison
The Bill Comparison tool on your Account Overview allows you to compare your bills month over month. An easy-to-understand bar graph compares your current bill to the previous, as well as context that lets you know how this compares to the previous year. Under the graph you’ll find reasons why your bill may be higher or lower.
This feature is also available in the palm of your hand on our mobile app under Usage & Billing Insights.
High Bill Alert and Weekly Energy Update Emails
You’ll be signed up for two new emails after your meter is installed:
- Weekly Energy Update, with detailed information about your usage.
- High Bill Alert, which you will receive only if you exceed a usage or bill amount threshold you can set and manage.
Usage and Costs Over Time
This full-screen experience provides a chart of your energy usage and costs over time.
Using the dropdown menu at the top, you can see your usage over a year, and because of your smart meter, even over the course of a day. The Energy Costs screen allows you to see this usage as dollar amounts. All of this is represented along with a weather trend to understand how temperatures affect your usage.

Detailed Energy Breakdown
If you’re curious what appliances in your home are using the most energy, explore the Energy Breakdown tool that analyzes your usage by source. You’ll be prompted to enter some basic information about your home to get the most accurate information.
Share Data with Providers
You might want to share your electricity usage data with approved service providers who help you conserve energy and get energy-related projects done. For example, your solar provider might want to see your usage history to help you monitor your savings.
This new secure and easy way to share your data, available only to smart meter customers, is automatic and saves you from having to download and email your information. You control who you share your data with and can remove access whenever you want.
